kickin it old school: W4

Technically, this is Week 4 of the Kickin It Old School (aka 52 Weeks/52 Letters Challenge). However, I just started last week so that was my first week. I'm trying to catch up so that I'll be on the right week. At the end of last week, I sent two things out. I started off a bit rough. The first was a letter that I sent to a friend, basically talking about nothing. A whole letter of nothing. The other was to another friend who I will not name because they might find this blog and find out about the letter before it arrives.

If I send two more this week, I'll be right on schedule. But that's unlikely to happen because I'm heading to New York this weekend for my bestest's 25th birthday celebration. Her and a few other friends are flying up from Florida and I'm meeting them there on Friday. We've got a bunch of stuff planned, including visiting the Statue of Liberty. Living in Baltimore, this is not my first time to NY and as such isn't as much a big deal to me. However, I think only one of the four of them has been before, so we'll be seeing Lady Liberty! Also, The Lion King, Madame Tussaud's, and ice skating. Me and my bestest went to Madame Tussaud's in Vegas over 3 years ago and it was a blast... after I got over an unexpected feeling of fear at seeing how life like the wax figures were. And that was before we went in. I am not only a little ashamed of how terrified I was about going in and the fact that I had to call my mother for encouragement. The important part is that I did it. Got some awesome pictures while we were there, too. I wonder if I can find any of those....

It's snowing here so I'm definitely not going to anyone's post office today. If I miss this week's trip, I'll be three weeks behind, but totally ready to get back into the swing of things next week.

Tune in next week for details and photos of our trip.

the return of writing wednesday.

Almost two years ago, Toni and I created Writing Wednesday.  We each had to post on our blogs every Wednesday.  If you missed a week, you owed the other person $1.  Short and to the point.

With the "launch" of this new blog, I've joined in again with her and a friend of hers (who posts notes on Facebook).  We are clearly hoping this will motivate us both to keep up with our blogs.  Only time will tell, I guess.

In slightly related news, you'll notice back posts arriving every now and then.  I'm transferring the posts from my old blog to this one so you'll have something to read.  Ain't I sweet?  I'm not moving all of them just a select few that I think relate to what I want for this one and to help you understand me and my Fantastic World (ha!).

spring tv schedule (2011).

Because I haven't been blogging, I haven't done a TV schedule post in a while. Things have changed since the last one I shared in fall of 2009. I wasn't watching much television then because I was doing an internship that had me regulary working 50-60 hours per week. I only had time for the shows that I truly could not do without.

Nowadays? Time is not so much a problem anymore. Over the summer, I was watching about 4 gazillion shows, but it's been whittled down since then. I've also included my method of watching the show. If it says nothing, that means I watch it when it comes on. Here we go:

SUNDAY
Family Guy (FOX) (Hulu)

MONDAY
Chuck (NBC)
90210 (CW) (DVR)
The Big Bang Theory (CBS) (DVR)
The Cape (NBC) (On Demand)
Castle (ABC) (DVR)
Harry's Law (NBC) (DVR)

TUESDAY
Glee (FOX)
White Collar (USA) (DVR)

WEDNESDAY
Modern Family (ABC) (DVR)

THURSDAY
Bones (FOX)
Grey's Anatomy (ABC)
The Office (NBC) (Hulu)

FRIDAY
Your OWN Show (OWN) (DVR)
Behind the Scenes: Oprah Season 25 (OWN) (DVR)

I'm currently waiting for Burn Notice (USA) and Eureka (SyFy) to come back, though who knows when that'll be. Notice how much I watch NBC?! Who'da thunk it? ABC used to rule my television. But no longer.

God bless DVR.

welcome, welcome.

I wish I could promise that this will work out.  I've had any number of blogs over the last few years and, well, they never last.  Ever.  But I'm willing to try again.  The older posts here were moved from another blog I had.

My main reason for blogging this time will be to document a letter writing challenge that I saw on The Non Consumer Advocate. The 52 Weeks, 52 Letters challenge was described as this:

One piece of “real” mail sent out each week. It can be a letter, a postcard, a care package, a thank you note, handmade art, etc. I’m searching for all of the cards and stationary I have collected over the years and gathering them into one place with pens, envelopes (regular & padded), lots of stamps (.28 & .44), a glue stick, unlined index cards (great for making postcards), and a few USPS Small Flat Rate boxes. Oh, and I’m updating my address book.

I'll have to get my hands on some envelopes, stamps, and possibly some index cards.  I can't imagine I'll actually be creating my own postcards, but you never know.  I do feel like this challenge was made for me.  For Christmas, one of my friends got me a wax seal, which I have always wanted!  I think they're amazing.  I'd always imagined if/when I got one, I'd start writing letters.  Now, I have the push I needed.  I'm going to call it Kicking It Old School (KIOS).  As Katy mentions, I'm not going to send things to 52 different people.  I don't know that many people that I'd like to write to.  I might be able to think of ten.  I'm active on BookCrossing and will count any random surprises I send for this challenge.

Since I'm already behind, I will be writing a letter today or tomorrow and maybe getting it out on Friday.  I wonder who the lucky recipient will be.
